Digital Coffee represents the freelance design work of David Harned. I have been creating all kinds of things since I was a young child. I have had a lifetime of art experience, and over 10 years experience designing web sites. Internet Design is my current love, my "Digital Coffee." It often keeps me awake way too late, and is becoming quite addictive.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Northern Illinois University with an emphasis in Illustration. After being trained in the art of painting, drawing, airbrush and digital illustration, I began working in a print design house in the Chicagoland area.
My work there included illustration and design of, magazines, brochures, fliers, stickers, packages, labels, weekly mailers and contracts as well as other varied projects.
While working at the print design house, I began my training to create web sites, something we were offering as a free bonus to our larger revenue-generating print customers. I headed full-throttle into web site design, designing for clients, and enjoying this new "interactive art" greatly.
I began teaching classes including "Beginning Internet Design" and "Optimizing Images for the Web" as well as "Beginner's Guide to the Internet." I enjoyed teaching others to use the Internet, and educating them in what a powerful tool the internet could truly be.
I gained some valuable experience during my involvement with an internet startup. The company that I was working for closed down in July 2000 due to lack of financial resources. A business-to-consumer model, we pushed hard to get traffic. We changed directions a few too many times. Finally, not able to receive the financial backing we needed, the company went belly up. In the end I was left with a wealth of new skills and experiences, and I am thankful to have been a part of it.
I currently work for a Font and Imaging Company named Monotype Imaging, creators of many fonts that you use everyday. As the Director of Internet Development, I manage an exceptional team of developers to administrate the company's varied websites.
